March 30th: Student Day of Action!!

On March 30th, 2009, Students for a Responsible Budget is calling for a day of action against tuition increases, the cutting of T.A.P funds, and other state funding for higher education.

In Rochester, SRB is calling for a massive student rally at SUNY Brockport, at 1pm in the Mall for students to unite against these cuts.

The current budget is disastrous for health care, social services and education. For college students and individuals involved in higher education, the budget hurts in the following ways:

1. Paterson's current budget will cut aid to SUNY four-year colleges by $201million; CUNY colleges cut $46 million. For students this will mean further increases to tuition, fewer and harder to attain loans, and poorer facilities.

2. The current budget will cut community college aid by $46 million at SUNY, and $27 million at CUNY.

3. Undergraduate tuition will increase by 14% at SUNY, and 15% at CUNY.

4. Funding to SUNY hospitals would be cut by $25 million

5. The Tuition Assistance Program will become more restrictuve for graduate students and part time students and those will poorer grades, cutting $47 million in funding for TAP.

Protesting these cuts to higher education is important, however, we need to present a soultion in order for anything to chage. That solution is Fair Share Tax Reform! Fair Share Tax Reform will bring about $6 billion in revenu for the state, to help briget the budget gap, so that higher education, healthcare, and social services do not have to take such devastaing cuts.

Are you organizing on your campus contact Rebecca at rrnewberry@gmail.com to join Students for a Responsible Budget
