Welcome to Students for a Responsible Budget!

This is just a quick post to welcome you to the blog for Students for a Responsible Budget. Thanks for stopping by! We are a coalition of college students working to reform the New York state budget.

New York faces a projected budget deficit of $15 billion. The proposed New York Sate budget will drastically cut education, healthcare, direct services, and entail a $600 increase to SUNY tuition.

Any solution will require shared sacrifice and cuts to popular programs, but working families and students shouldn't bear the burden alone. A real shared sacrifice will require not just cuts but reform to New York's Personal Income Tax to raise the needed revenue.

We want affordable and quality education, affordable and accessible healthcare, and an end to tax breaks for corporations and the rich. In order to accomplish these things, we need to tax personal income over $250,000 at slightly higher rates, instead of making cuts that hurt students and working families

We are calling on our representatives to hear our voice on this issue. No more cuts to needed services! It is time to make New York's income taxes progressive and fair!

If you're interested in getting involved, check out the Fair Share Tax Reform website through the link in our sidebar. You can also join our group on Facebook.
